Dr. Bob Parney is the IBM global lead for industry applications in quantum computing for Oil and Gas, Energy, and Sustainability, based in Denver Colorado. As part of his role at IBM Bob leads the quantum partnerships with several IBM clients.  Bob has been part of the IBM Quantum Industry Technical team, within IBM Research, for 5 years and working in the Quantum industry for 7. Bob is a thought leader and scientist with 40 years in oil and gas, environment, and technology, starting his career at ExxonMobil and holding technical positions as geophysicist, reservoir engineer, quantum software engineer, and hydrogeologist - specializing in quantum computing, fractured reservoirs, seismic attributes and unconventionals.  Bob has held leadership roles as VP, Chief Geophysicist, and lead the unconventional reservoir characterization group for Noble Energy. Bob brings his technical experience in application of quantum algorithms, AI, statistics, seismic imaging, reservoir simulation and computational fluid dynamics, and has leveraged his passion for helping drive creative technical teams towards solutions in positions ranging from small tech start-ups to massive multi-nationals. Bob has a Ph.D. in Hydrogeology from UBC (Vancouver) and an M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Geophysics from the University of Calgary.
